Why would an elementary school prohibit Red Ribbon Week items that were presented to the students by the PTO?
As co-chair of the parent organization for my daughter’s elementary school, I shopped for Red Ribbon Week items for the kids (grades K-6). We selected bookmarks & tattoos.
We put them in the teachers’ mailboxes with a note to distribute according to their discretion with an age-appropriate activity. For some reason after many of the teachers distributed the items to the kids, they were told to get them back. My 2nd grade daughter’s teacher went through the kids’ bags while they were at gym.
The bookmarks say “Too smart to start” and the tattoos just have basic red ribbon designs and a little quote like “drug free & proud.” Why wouldn’t the students be allowed to have these?
*Additional info*
Yes, we did provide the principal with information in plenty of time for her to voice an objection prior to yesterday. I know it was not her who demanded the items be collected, but I don’t know who did.
Did you coordinate this with your school?
It would seem to me that if you are part of the PTO associate with your daughter’s school, you would coordinate your activities with the school administration. If you did that, the school’s administration would notify you if there were some kind of policy against that sort of thing
